My Paintings.
Western Paintings
I grew up with horses, goats, and chickens on a hobby farm in Minnesota. I grew up watching the Lone Ranger and John Wayne. I married a girl from the West, Utah. We now live in Utah. I feel that the West is a big part of me, and my appreciation for the West and its rich history and culture only grows with each painting I make. Oh, yeah, and my last name is pronounced the same as the nickname of Clarence E. Mulford's character "Hopalong Cassidy"-- "Hoppy." My name sounds the same but with an "e" at the end instead of the "y." Hoppe.

Landscape Paintings
This is one of my favorite plein air experiences so far. As I was finishing one, I looked over my shoulder and saw the other one. Feeling inspired, I turned my easel and painted the next one. For the first one, I was excited about the light showing the warms of the rocks under the water at the water's edge as well as the fun rock out cropping. The second one, shown in the picture which includes my whole easel set up on the ground, I was inspired by the greens of the trees reflecting in the water as well as how the clouds moving overhead would make the landscape behind this point to go completely into shadow, highlighting this point of land and the reflections it made in the water. I named the first one, "Hard Winter's Blessing," celebrating that the hard winter had filled the very low reservoirs. This is a 16"x20" painting done completely on location. I named the second one, "Inspiration Point," celebrating the moment of inspiration as I look over my shoulder. It is 9"x12." Both of these sold.
